Psomas San Diego Wins Two CMAA Awards

Construction on El Norte Parkway

Congratulations to our San Diego based Construction Management team for winning two 2021 Project Achievement Awards from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), San Diego Chapter.

Psomas received awards in two different categories: the El Norte Parkway Improvements took top honors in Transportation – Less than $15 Million, and the Coronado Third, Fourth, and I Avenue Storm Drain Rehabilitation was named Honorable Mention in Public Works – Less Than $15 Million.

The El Norte Parkway Improvements project in the City of Escondido removed a traffic bottleneck over the Escondido Creek by constructing a new bridge to provide two traffic lanes in each direction, added dedicated bike lanes, and a pedestrian crossing signal at the bridge. Psomas provided inspection support services, including structures inspection, geotechnical testing and inspection, and materials testing and inspection.

The Third, Fourth, and I Avenue Storm Drain Rehabilitation Project resolved a persistent flooding problem in the City of Coronado along Fourth Street at the intersection of Alameda Boulevard. The high groundwater level within the city, impacted by high tides and coupled with major rain events, regularly leads to flooding at street level, resulting in the closure of vehicle alleyways, and, in some instances, flooded residences and property damage. This problem was addressed by constructing new storm drain inlets upstream at the intersection of Fourth Street and I Avenue, then connecting these inlets to a new 48” storm drain line running along I Avenue to the north. Psomas provided construction management, inspection, and surveying services.

Congratulations to the entire project team, including Corporate Director of Construction Management Byron Tobey, Senior Project Manager Misha Troyan, Structures Representative Jorge Uberhuaga (El Norte), Inspector Ron Thomason (El Norte), Construction Manager Abdul Khan (Coronado), and Construction Inspector Bob Duffy (Coronado).
