Psomas Bridge Experts to Support Construction of LA’s Iconic Sixth Street Viaduct
Psomas is joining the City of Los Angeles to provide bridge expert services in support of the construction of the iconic Sixth Street Viaduct, the most significant bridge project in Los Angeles this century.
Brett Barnett, Psomas’ project manager, said, “It is unique in today’s professional services climate to have multiple opportunities to work on the same project, and we appreciate the city selecting Psomas to provide this unique and challenging construction management service.”
The Sixth Street Viaduct project replaces a historic bridge built in 1932 that crosses the 101 Freeway, 18 railroad tracks, and the Los Angeles River. The old bridge required replacement due to Alkali-Silica Reactivity, which causes the concrete of the structure to crack and weaken. The new bridge is a network arch design with 10 arches to replace the notable two in the old bridge.
