Mobile Laser Scanning for Tunnel off of Bay Bridge

Caltrans District 4 needed Mobile Terrestrial Laser Scanning (MTLS) of several fast-track projects including the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel that is accessed via the San Francisco Bay Bridge. The tunnel is part of the Interstate 80 Bay Bridge connecting San Francisco and Alameda Counties. With average daily vehicle counts of 270,000, this roadway is a critical path for the movement of commuters, goods and services.

The project required a lighting study and the gathering of as-built data at each end and through the tunnel. GPS geodetic control was performed, the MTLS data was acquired and processed, and sanitized deliverables were supplied to District headquarters.
