Braided Ramp Interchange Saves $2 million

As part of the I-19 highway improvement project, Psomas completed the Design Concept Report and final design for reconstruction of a 4.5-mile, two-lane frontage road in Green Valley, Arizona.

The project included reinforced concrete bridge structures, cast-in-place concrete retaining walls, the widening of the Continental Road crossing under the Interstate, a wildlife friendly bridge and other drainage and roadway improvements.

Psomas proposed the innovative solution of a braided ramp that addressed the specific constraints of the project and was also acceptable to all stakeholders, while saving Pima County approximately $2,000,000.

The project was completed under an accelerated schedule and with multi-jurisdictional involvement including the Federal Highway Administration, Arizona Department of Transportation, Pima County, U.S. Postal Service, Citizen Advisory Committee, businesses in the surrounding area and the general public.
