Gateway to a New Development
A new 450-acre development is planned in the City of Santa Paula. The main entrance, at the intersection of Hallock Drive and State Route 126, is inadequate to support the increase in traffic and thus needs improvements.
Psomas is providing the PEER report and PS&E for the widening and improved traffic signalization at this intersection. Proposed improvements include widening to accommodate sidewalks, bike lanes, additional thru and turning lanes, traffic signalization, retaining walls, and storm drain. A traffic study was completed as part of the Caltrans Intersection Control Evaluation process to determine if a roundabout would be appropriate in lieu of a signalized intersection.
To expedite the design process, Psomas utilized a 360-degree camera to quickly capture existing field conditions to minimize time in the field and help convey design issues to the client. The footage allowed the design team to revisit the field by reviewing the video and subsequently captured an inconsistency with the as-builts for the existing roadway improvements. This discovery led to a significant change to the proposed drainage system, which saved the project from potential cost overruns during construction.
