Improving Communities for Our Troops

Located at the base of the Huachuca Mountains, Fort Huachuca covers more than 70,000 acres and, with an estimated 16,000 people living and working there, the Yuma Proving Ground is one of the largest military installations in the world. Psomas provided civil engineering and landscape architectural design for this housing privatization.

The landscape architectural design emphasized neighborhood-based housing, recreation, and water conservation. In addition to military housing, Psomas provided design for a 22-acre park site including a splash pad, community center, volleyball field, basketball field, soccer field, playground, horseshoe pit, pavilions, and disc golf course. Natural landscaping and vegetation was incorporated throughout the park.

The existing roadway improvements were designed to increase traffic flows through the area, making traffic more efficient while also slowing it down through the park areas. Landscaped islands in roadway roundabouts created aesthetic appeal. Several 3D visualization graphics were produced, and design was completed under budget.
