Rehabilitation of a 50-Year-Old Lift Station
Psomas was retained to analyze alternatives for rehabilitation of an existing 50-year-old sewage lift station located in Doheny State Park in Dana Point. The pump station included a below-grade dry well/wet well with a small control building located above. The District and State Park authorities wanted to remove the building due to its location in a day-use area of the beach. Recommended upgrades included replacement of three existing vertical turbine pumps with two larger 500 GPM, 6.4 hp submersible duty pumps in a dry well.
Because the pump station wet well could only be accessed through the existing control room, current code requirements necessitated the relocation of the MCC and pump controls above grade. The existing below-grade structure was modified to accommodate new aluminum access hatches, mono-rail, and stairways.
