Award-Winning Mountain Transit Center
Tahoe City Transit Center is Placer County’s award-winning public transportation hub, conveniently located at the “Y” in Tahoe City that serves as the confluence of the North and South Lake areas. Tahoe is a popular retreat destination and a year-round residential community. Traffic congestion and pollution have begun to threaten Tahoe’s ecosystem and natural resources. The development of this facility encourages a greater use of public transit with the goal of protecting the environment.
The 5,500 SF facility is a unique metal structure with stormwater catchment within and a water treatment system for the harvested water. The roof has photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, and civil work made use of porous concrete parking areas, a vault underdrain infiltration system, extensive vegetation restoration around the site, and improvements to SR 89 that required extensive coordination with Caltrans.
Psomas provided construction administration and inspection services for the building which features exterior and interior waiting areas, offices, a passenger loading area, restrooms, and bike lockers.
