Environmental Integrity Meets Urban Entertainment

The 15-acre Sandy City Urban Fish Park, located along the Jordan River, includes a one-acre turf/playground area, pavilion, a three-acre fish pond with a floating dock, restrooms, trails, interpretive signage, and two parking lots.

Psomas provided planning, design, and construction management services. The plans specified native Utah plants requiring minimal irrigation. Existing wetlands will also benefit from the flow on the property to maintain and enhance the vegetation and wildlife habitat.

Planning for the pond included coordination with the Corps of Engineers for 404 Regulatory Compliance and an environmental assessment for the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to meet the requirements for the project’s funding. As part of the project, a steering committee was created comprised of City officials, neighborhood representatives, and critical agency representatives.
