Floodplain Mapping using HEC-RAS and FLO-2D
The Lomas de Oro flood and erosion protection project was important to improve flooding conditions in the adjacent subdivision. The project included a Basis of Design Report (BDR) and formal construction documents for 3,200 LF of gabion bank protection to mitigate lateral bank migration issues.
The BDR included floodplain mapping using HEC-RAS and FLO-2D scour analysis to determine gabion toe-down depths, sediment transport analysis, and 30% concept plans. It also included an alternatives assessment and cost-benefit analysis in support of obtaining FEMA emergency mitigation funding.
The final plans included numerous details for maintenance access ramps, stabilized at-grade crossings, culvert crossings, and other features.
