Water Resources Analysis
1,000 Megawatt Solar Project
The California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved the construction of the 1,000 MW Blythe Solar Thermal Project. When complete, the $4-billion project will be the largest solar project in the world, providing enough electrical energy for 800,000 homes and cover more than 7,000 acres.
Psomas was responsible for the soil and water resources analysis for the project’s permitting documents. This included a rigorous drainage and groundwater analysis covering modeling, evaluation of Colorado River water rights and the project’s impact on the Colorado River, the writing of Waste Discharge Requirements, and the writing of conditions for certifications.
Psomas’ analysis was presented in written testimony and defended through several levels of rebuttal, workshops, and finally formal hearings.
