Safer Railroad Crossings and Improved Air Quality

The North Stockton Railroad Grade Separations project replaced three railroad crossings with bridges and an undercrossing that accommodate growing traffic and development. Motorists and emergency response vehicles are now able to cross over or under the railroad tracks without stopping for trains, thereby increasing safety and reducing travel times. This $42 million program was essentially three projects delivered under one contract:

  • Bridge on Eight Mile Road (West) that was built in two stages over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks
  • Bridge on Eight Mile Road (East) just west of SR 99 over UPRR tracks
  • Undercrossing on Lower Sacramento Road of UPRR tracks

Full construction management and inspection services were provided which involved oversight of structures, soundwalls, decorative retaining walls, safety railing, pump stations, landscaping, construction staking, and materials sampling and testing. Administration of the project required that work at each of the three sites be tracked separately, while also having the ability to be combined and reported on as a single contract.
